What We Do

United Way/Corporate Matching Gifts

United Way/Corporate Matching Gifts

United Way

In May 2015, the Urbandale Schools and Alumni Foundation was approved by United Way as a Donor-Directed entity. As a United Way Partner, we are able to receive donor-directed contributions through United Way of Central Iowa.

Corporate Matching Gifts

Many employers generously offer matching gift programs to benefit local public schools. Because the Foundation is a tax-exempt organization under the provisions of IRS code 501(c)(3), we are able to receive matching contributions from employers. Some of the companies that make matching donations include:

  • MidAmerican Energy
  • Pioneer Hi-Bred
  • Principal Financial Group
  • Wells Fargo

The requirement for the matching portion of a contribution varies by employer.  Employees wishing to donate to the Urbandale Education Foundation should send their contribution, along with their employer’s completed Matching Gift Application/Grant Form to the Urbandale Education Foundation (address located on left side-bar). The Foundation will certify the gift, and file for the matching funds to the appropriate institution.

If the matching institution is not one of the above listed companies, the donor is asked to provide a copy of their company’s program requirements.  Matching funds will be handled in compliance with the company’s program.

MidAmerican Energy

Gifts from $25 to $1,500 per calendar year will be matched. Unless instructed otherwise by the donor, all matching grants will have the same restrictions as the original gift.

Pioneer Hi-Bred International

Gifts from $25 to $3,000 per calendar-year will be matched. The matching contribution is in support of the general operating fund of the non-profit organization.

Principal Financial Group

Gifts made to K-12 public education foundations will qualify for a matching grant between $50 and $500 per year. All matching grants will be unrestricted.

Wells Fargo

Wells Fargo allows employees to designate contributions to local schools during their Annual Giving/United Way Campaign. This may be a one time donation or may be collected through payroll deduction. The Wells Fargo Foundation matches the employee’s contribution through its Educational Matching Gift Program.  Any employee wishing to donate directly to the Foundation may do so at any time during the year. Gifts from $25 to $6,500 will be matched.

The Wells Fargo Foundation does not allow the individual contributor to designate the matching portion of their gift. The Urbandale Community Schools Education Foundation is required to hold any matching amounts received in its general fund for the unrestricted benefit of all educators and students in the District.

Any contribution received directly from a Wells Fargo employee must be accompanied by a completed Educational Matching Gift Program Donation Form. The Foundation will then certify the contribution and file for the appropriate match.
